Srinagar, Mar 28 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that the recruitment process for faculty posts at Government Ayurvedic Medical College (GAMC) Akhnoor remains pending due to an ongoing legal case, while efforts are underway to finalize recruitment rules for permanent staffing.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Mohan Lal, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that GAMC Akhnoor is currently functioning with adequate faculty.
She stated that staff have been deputed from the J&K Ayush Department, while additional faculty members have been engaged on a contractual and academic arrangement basis to meet the regulatory requirements set by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).
The Minister informed the House that the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) had advertised faculty posts during 2022–23. However, the recruitment process could not be finalized due to litigation pending before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Jammu Bench, in case OA No. 629/2023.
“All relevant records have been placed before the Hon’ble Court. The final arguments in the case have been concluded, and the matter has been reserved for judgment as per the CAT order dated February 18, 2026,” she said.
Sakina Itoo further stated that the Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu is currently holding the additional charge as Principal of GAMC Akhnoor.
She added that the recruitment rules for both gazetted and non-gazetted posts in Government Ayurvedic Medical Colleges are under active consideration of the department. “Once these rules are finalized and the court case is disposed of, the process for permanent recruitment will be initiated through the designated recruiting agencies,” the Minister said.
She also informed that postgraduate (PG) courses have already been started at the college, with adequate faculty arranged through deputation and contractual engagements in compliance with NCISM and Jammu University norms.
Reiterating the government’s position, she said that the recruitment process for permanent staff will move forward only after the conclusion of the court proceedings and finalization of recruitment rules—(KNO)
